I am a Professor of Computer Science in the School of Computer Science, University of Manchester and have led the National Centre for Text Mining (www.nactem.ac.uk) since 2007. My main areas of research are semantic text mining and semantic search techniques for applications in domains such as systems biology, public health, chemistry and social sciences. I am also involved in developing large-scale resources (terminological resources and annotated data) and interoperable text mining platforms. My current projects include semantic search for Europe PubMedCentral, mining information from historical medical documents and extraction of semantic metadata to facilitate automated quality measurement of open source software. I have authored over 250 publications.
